The Attic to Suite Conversion

THE FEELING: Warm Minimalism

Long used as an office and storage space, this attic was ready for it’s glow up. A common conversion in 1920’s Pittsburgh homes, Leo Rose Interior Design worked with Fishman Architecture and Fisher Renovations to convert the attic to a primary suite consisting of a bedroom, full bath and walk-in closet. The clients wanted the space to compliment the era of the home and echo its natural warmth while embracing a minimalist approach. So, I focused on clean lines and modern forms in the vanity and fixtures, and color drenched the bedroom to envelop the space and lessen the contrasts. Color and texture was then added to provide the warmth and layered in moments of whimsy that paralleled the fun personalities of our client.

Also shown: The 2nd floor bathroom which was designed to completely replicate a 1920’s original bathroom. This was a fun study to find new tile and fixtures to meet the style, and on the importance of original character and a home’s story that is worthy of telling.
